Patricia A. Davis, RDH
ADHA District VI Trustee

Kingsport, TN 37660

I was born in Orlando, Florida, on June 21, 1944 and graduated from the Orange County Florida School System in 1962. On April 17, 1965, I married James E. Davis and moved to Kingsport, TN. My son, Brian, was born in Kingsport on Dec. 4, 1970. Over the years I have enjoyed many activities which include sewing and needlework, gardening and flower arranging, bridge, golf, church activities, and art endeavors. I am also very involved in learning various techniques in making jewelry.
I have a passion for my profession, which I have demonstrated by my long involvement in dentistry, ADHA, TDHA and the First District Dental Hygienists’ Society. At the age of sixteen I began my career as a dental assistant in the office of our family dentist in Winter Garden, FL. I attended the University of Southern Mississippi in Pre-Med, Pre-Dental from 1962 through 1965. I attended Cuyahoga Community College in Cleveland, OH, and graduated in 1969 with an Associate Degree in Dental Hygiene. I have held dental hygiene licenses in Ohio, Florida, and Tennessee. I have maintained an active license in Tennessee since 1969. Although my clinical experience includes general dentistry, I have spent 22 glorious years practicing dental hygiene in periodontics. I am and have for 12 years practiced dental hygiene with Dr. Ronald Godat, Periodontist, in Kingsport.
Since 1969, I have held offices in First District Dental Hygienists’ Society, which includes all committee chairmanships, numerous terms as delegate and trustee to TDHA, and up the ladder to President.
Along with my work in my component society, I have served TDHA as a committee member and/or chairperson of most committees, numerous years as one of the First District’s TDHA Delegates, and several terms as TDHA Trustee for First District, Vice-President, President Elect, and President in 1991-92. I am currently serving my fifth year as one of Tennessee’s ADHA Delegates. I’m proud to have been honored by my colleagues with TDHA’s Outstanding Dental Hygienist Award in 1997.
In 1993, I was appointed by the governor as the Dental Hygiene member on the Tennessee Board of Dentistry. It was a very satisfying experience knowing that I was serving and helping protect the consumers of Tennessee. My relationship with members of the dental community in this capacity was unique and I was pleased that my abilities were rewarded with being elected Vice-President of the Board of Dentistry.
Being an active member of the TN Board of Dentistry also meant being a dental hygiene examiner for the Southern Regional Testing Agency. It was a great experience and pleasure to work with licensing these young and excited dental hygiene students and see the start of their careers as oral healthcare providers.
I currently serve as one of Tennessee’s ADHA Delegates, as a member of the TDHA legislative committee, and continue working with the Board of Dentistry as TDHA Liaison to the Board.
All this experience, especially with the Board of Dentistry, has helped me develop skills that have been useful with TDHA’s. I have journeyed into politics and focused my efforts in pushing our profession to the forefront as the recognized authority on dental hygiene prevention and a competent provider of oral health care. TDHA is proud of our legislative committee, lobbyists, and members in making this journey in small, but successful steps.
I feel I have skills that would enable me to serve my profession on a higher level and promise to represent District VI with dignity with this chance.
