Louisiana State Board of Dentistry Update
By Cathy Springstead, RDH, MEd
December 7, 2002:
As is customary during the December meeting of the Louisiana State Board of Dentistry (LSBD), the
2003-2004 President was announced and the current President was bid farewell.
Dr. Conrad "Butch" McVea, from Franklinton, admitted to relief after completing his term as President. A very gregarious man, Dr. McVea was always receptive to suggestions and comments and often requested input from the hygiene community. I found him accessible, pleasant and a joy with whom to work. On behalf of LDHA, we thank him for his leadership and spirit of cooperation.
In the upcoming year, we (LDHA) look forward to working with Dr. John Legleu, a Periodontist from Baton Rouge, who will serve as LSBD President. We sincerely hope that his presidency will be an easy, controversy-free one. LDHA has continued to enjoy a mutually trusting relationship with the LSBD, where respect and communication remain priorities.
One other note of interest for the dental hygiene community is the ever-changing format of the Dental Practice Act. The current binder withinserts has suffered a quick demise in favor of the previous booklet form. It was discovered that the binder was cumbersome and not oftenupdated. We are returning to the previous booklet format in hopes that members of the dental and dental hygiene communities will find it accessible and intelligible. Look for it in the mail after every legislative session, beginning in 2003.
